Two Candles

"Two Candles," by Gerhard Richter

On Thursday night I was knocked off my feet and dragged through an alley by an exceptionally stupid thief who wanted to steal my book bag, mistaking it for my purse. (Adios, digital camera.) This misfortune has left me mostly unscathed, save for a sprained hand, which is making typing impractical. So B&W is taking a holiday break. We'll be back when the swelling goes down, or the holidays are over.

Here is the image from the holiday card we sent this year. Hipsters of a certain age will recognize an iteration of it as this.

Oh Anne - I'm glad you weren't badly hurt!!! It could have been so much worse, but I'm sure it was scary just the same. I'm sorry about your hand!

I know. It's corny but still I'm sending them all the same.

I loved the card, but it was strange to see the image and connect it with the Sonic Youth record and then read the happy cheerful Christmas message inside! Kind of jarring, but still gave me a warm feeling.

Hope the hand injury gives you an excuse to take it easy for the rest of the holidays.

Glad you're (mostly) OK, though I'm sorry you lost your bag. Hope your holiday is better than last Thursday.
