The First Casualty of War Is Mousse

Seen via Media News:

The Washington Post reports:

The White House is vowing a strong retaliatory response after the BBC aired live video of President Bush getting his hair coiffed in the Oval Office as he squirmed in his chair and practiced on the teleprompter minutes before Wednesday night's speech announcing the launch of military operations against Saddam Hussein.

A "retaliatory response"? I love it. Maybe we should just launch some of those Fox commentators, like missiles, at the BBC. That'll show 'em!

A little bit of the video is here.

I saw that clip as well, on the day that the invasion started. It was... bad PR. He was there one moment, trying to look cute as people fussed over his hair and he tried to figure out the cameras ( aw, shucks), and the next, he had on his leader of the nation avatar.

Subtlety was lacking, transitions as well.

I seem to recall that you are interested in language- although I could be wrong. Does the language being used in this campaign strike you as being something that one must... learn ?

I think it's something one must learn to decipher, because generally they're not using language very well. Frankly, though, I've tried to avoid most of the coverage and haven't watched any of it on TV, so it's hard for me to get a good read.
